But what are Manala? On the 6th of December, on the day of Saint Nicholas, it is customary to prepare Manalas, the brioche men that can be enjoyed for breakfast or for an afternoon snack, and that are given to children who behaved. In actual fact, every opportunity is a good excuse in Alsace to eat manala: we bring some to our colleagues, to our friends. We use to do this during almost the whole holiday season! 

In Bas-Rhin, they are called Mannele, but in Haut-Rhin, they are Manala (Mannala). And in Franche-Comté, people say “Jean Bonhomme”. But the main thing is that they are good, right?
