  Are you beginning to learn French?  Maybe you wish to review or maintain your skills?  Private lessons allow you to reach your individual learning goals and set the right schedule that fits your needs. The Alliance Française of Kansas City offers online and in person tutoring with qualified and experienced teachers for its members.

  Get serious about speaking French! Monday conversations are a perfect place to build or polish your conversation skills in a friendly environment! Please sign up so we can know how many people to expect, and so that we can contact you in the event of a schedule change or any other updates.

  This is a teacher-guided conversation open to all current AFKC members. Each week there is a theme agreed upon the week before. 

  Our weekly event is open to all levels of French speakers, come hang out with some francophiles!

  Prospective students for our classes can also take advantage of this meet-up to help determine which level may be best. Do not not hesitate to ask the teacher for input!

  This is a class for Absolute Beginner's French, level A1.1. We will be working on unit 0 and Module 1 (unites 1 through 3) of the Saison 1 textbook. 

  At this level, you will begin to communicate in very familiar contexts with the help of the listener, including the ability to introduce yourself, ask about others, talk about your preferences, actives, hobbies and daily routine and also ask and tell the time. Grammar points include the present tense (high frequency verbs such as être (to be), avoir (to have), venir (to come), vouloir (to want), pouvoir (to be able to), regular verbs ending in -er and simple pronominal verbs). You will be able to talk about the near future and get to know subject pronouns, tonic pronouns, statements and questions, prepositions (à, de) and their contractions, numbers (counting), colors, articles and gender of nouns, vocabulary relative to everyday items and places.

  This is a class for Beginner's French, level A1.3. We will be working on Module 3 (unites 7 through 9) of the Saison 1 textbook. 

  These chapters will help you discuss work and study related subjects. Vocabulary about the body, animals, the weather and the environment will be introduced. The grammar for this level will include more high frequency verbs in the present tense, and more about the past tenses (le passé composé et l'imparfait). Other items include direct and indirect pronouns, relative pronouns as well as an introduction to conditional form of the verb.

  This is a class for Absolute Beginner's French, level A1.2. We will be working on Module 2 (unites 4 through 6) of the Saison 1 textbook. 

  These chapters will help you discuss clothing items, proposing and accepting invitations and foods. You will also be able to talk about an event in the past and ask or find your way in the city. The grammar for this level will include more high frequency verbs in the present tense, and by the end an introduction to the past tenses (le passé composé et l'imparfait). Other items include demonstrative adjectives, more interrogatives, adverbs of frequency, more about negation, talking about quantities (les articles partitifs) and an introduction to imperatives, the pronoun “y”, prepositions of location and elements of comparison.

  Designed for 6-9 year olds, "Les Loustics" is a fun, creative, action-oriented course full of visual and audio documents that reflect the lively world of children and gives them a zest for learning.

  The coursebook is easy to use with one page for each lesson and uses a gradual, spiral approach to reinforce learning from one lesson to the next.

  Each unit consists of five single-page lessons offering a variety of activities and a glossary. "

  Petit Doc" pages use accessible and authentic documents to foster openness to other cultures and disciplines.

  The workbook contains one double page of activities per lesson to reinforce learning and gradually introduce writing skills and comes with a CD of songs and poems.

  During the course of these sessions, you will get a taste of 19^th, 20^th and 21^st century French literature, with an interactive approach.

  Jean-Louis will work on excerpts that he has carefully selected from 5 well known novels form this time period.

  You will read the excerpts in class and discuss the plot and the main themes of the story. There will also be a short overview of the author’s life and the historic context in which the book has been created.

  You will not have to read the entire novel for the class. Well… not unless you want to.

  The course will also contain grammatical reminders and cultural vocabulary.

  Our objective is to pass on to you our love for the French literature while helping you improve your linguistic skills.

  “Knock ou le triomphe de la médecine“est une pièce de théâtre en 3 actes de Jules Romain. Elle a été jouée pour la première fois le 15 décembre 1923 au Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. Elle a été adaptée au cinéma plusieurs fois, en 1953 avec Louis Jouvet et en 2017 avec Omar Sy.

  La pièce est une satire mordante de la médecine dans la tradition moliéresque mais une réflexion enjouée sur le pouvoir de l’idéologie et la manipulation des masses.

  Rejoignez-nous pour cette expérience amusante: venez perfectionner votre Français en lisant/jouant les meilleures scènes de cette comédie avec nous. Aucun effort de mémorisation n’est demandé.

  Afin de vous permettre d’entrer plus facilement dans la peau des personnages, je vous adresserai deux semaines avant l’atelier un court résumé de l’intrigue, un descriptif des principaux personnages et un petit lexique pour les quelques mots difficiles.

  “Knock ou le triomphe de la médecine” is a play in 3 acts by Jules Romain. It was performed for the first time on December 15, 1923 at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. It has been adapted to the cinema several times, in 1953 with Louis Jouvet and in 2017 with Omar Sy.

  The play is a biting satire of medicine in the Molieresque tradition but a playful reflection on the power of ideology and the manipulation of the masses.

  Join us for this fun experience: perfect your French by reading/playing the best scenes of this comedy with us. No memorization required.

  In order to make it easier for you to get into the skin of the characters, I will send you two weeks before the workshop a short summary of the plot, a description of the main characters and a small lexicon for the few difficult words.
